October 16th is World Food Day. Join the movement to end hunger around the world and learn about a unique program from the Jaffa Institute.
The Jaffa Institute operates four After-School Activity Centers in Jaffa, south Tel Aviv and Bat Yam which provide educational enrichment programming to ensure our participants have the opportunity to achieve their academic potential.
When the Jaffa Institute’s social work staff analyzed the extent of malnutrition amongst its participants they found that 65% of students in the afternoon program did not have a balanced diet and 32% would regularly go an entire day without eating a nutritious meal. As a consequence, these children were unable to focus on their school-work and continued to be at risk of failing academically.
The Jaffa Institute’s Hot Meals program supplies these children hot meals upon arrival to the activity centers. Each of the meals, which are prepared on-site, contains between 35-40% of a child’s recommended daily intake of nutrients and contain a protein, a carbohydrate, vegetables and a piece of fruit.
Help us end hunger in Jaffa – give a child a hot meal today.
