This past September I had the pleasure of participating in the Bat Mitzvah of Miriam and Hannah Schwitzer, daughters of Hillel’s former director Joel and his wife Beri. During a joint dinner with Sammy Marks, my wife Dana and others we discussed many topics including the effect that Hillel had on our life, our Jewish identity and our love for long races. Soon it became clear that there is a unique opportunity for us to make these three passions meet together in one place.

We made a decision to meet again on April 30th, 2016 at the Illinois Marathon, to celebrate the end of Passover, participate in the Illinois Marathon, and raise funds for Illini Hillel. Hillel has been a source of personal and community growth, professional development and Jewish learning for us and for thousands of Jewish students over the years. It is here for the long run and we would like to support its on-going activities.
