After a visit to the Jordan River Village in 2014, author Elliot Sloyer was inspired by the amazing experience the Village provides for the chronically and seriously ill children of Israel that he wanted to help them make a difference. 

Jordan RIver Village is a camp in Israel for all children living with serious illnesses - Jews, Muslims, Christians. On our fully accessible 60-acre campus, the Village provides a week of pure joy, free of charge, for children who rarely experience the joys of childhood.  We are a proud member of Paul Newman's SeriousFun Children's Network, a global consortium of camps.

Summer Camp Stories (Book #2) - Bat in the Bunk

Bat in the Bunk  is the  second book in the Summer Camp Stories series.  It's a fun, memorable, and educational adventure that promotes great values, while subtly  introducing children to the summer camp experience.  The story is based on a true story that happened at Camp Massad in Tannersville, PA nearly 42 years ago (wow - I'm getting old).  I have  been telling the story to children for decades - always to smiles and looks of wonderment, and usually to the question - Did that really happen???  And the answer of course is YES!!! In a nutshell, David and Elliot are great camp friends. They always look forward to reuniting on the camp bus.  When Elliot arrives at camp he's feeling a bit homesick, like he has on the first day of camp every summer.  His counselor Joel keeps everybody busy so they all forget about missing home. Before leaving the bunk every night Joel has a fun routine.  He says good night to each camper in any language they chose.  One night, after Joel leaves the bunk, the campers are  playing cards and hanging out.  Suddenly one of the campers notices that there's a bat in the bunk.  NOT a baseball bat!  A real flying bat is circling from one end of the bunk to the other.  Holy Moly, you won't believe what happens next!!! The story has been brilliantly brought to life by award winning illustrator Vic Guiza.  Vic has illustrated dozens of children's books and has worked on projects for iconic  brands like Disney, Kelloggs, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
