Hillcrest Youth Department - Operation Carmel Renewal  

As we all know, the worst fires in the State of Israel's existence broke out on December 2, 2010 in the Carmel mountain range near Haifa. The fire destroyed 5 million trees, 12,500 acres of planted forest, open spaces and built-up area.

After four days of round-the-clock efforts, the Israeli fire-fighters succeeded in extingishing the fires. But the road to recovery has only just begun.

The Hillcrest Youth Department is embarking on a Chessed project to raise money to support the Jewish National Fund's emergency campaign: Operation Carmel Renewal: From Black to Green. Donations to thisJNF campaign are earmarked for repairing the cast ecological damage caused by the fires and replacing much-needed firefighting supplies and equipment for the Israeli fire fighters to be able to battle future fires. Your dollars will help purchase, among other things, fire-trucks, helmets, hoses, thermal cameras and chemicals.

• 50 hoses ($120 each) - $6,000

• 100 forcible entry tools ($7,500 each) - $750,000
• 1,500 helmets ($500 each) - $750,000
• 1,500 air tanks ($1,000 each) - $1.5 million
• 1,500 sets of fire protective gear ($2,000 each) - $3 million
• 1,500 masks ($3,700 each) - $5.5 million

Long-Term Needs
• 140 state-of-the-art fire trucks, ranging from $125,000 to $750,000,
• 10 firefighting motorcycles $50,000 each
• 10 alternative rescue vehicles  $36,000 each
