The Jerusalem Marathon is next Friday and for the first time ever, the Kupferbergs will be particiating as a family in a run!!! Why? So we can help raise money for the Shirat Devorah ALS Foundation, an organization that benefits my friend, Deborah Danielle Schochet, and others like her in the Jewish community suffering from ALS. 

I first connected with Deborah because our sister-in-law Loni is Deborah's first cousin.  We have also become friends here in Efrat with Deborah's amazing sister Hindy Cooper Ginsburg and have been lucky to host Deborah's lovely daughter Ella who is spending the year studying in Israel.  Hindy and Deborah's mother died of ALS, so the family is all too familiar with this devastating disease. Through her Facebook posts and blog, we follow Devorah's poignant struggle to retain her dignity and strength in the face of this terrible disease as she fills her roles of wife and mother of 4. She is only 40 years old.

While you may have already poured an ice bucket over your head recently or even given money to ALS research, contributing to the Shirat Devorah ALS Foundation helps Devorah and others with the crushing expenses that coping with this disease can bring in addition to helping find a cure.
