I've been donating hair for folks with medical hair loss since I was a teenager. My body seems to enjoy putting energy into growing hair instead of letting me put on enough weight for things like blood donation, so why not?
Up until this time, I'd been doing it in honor of a dear friend, Erica. This time, I do it in her memory. Cancer took her from us last month, and I don't think anyone who knew her will ever be the same.
Since I had colored my hair last year, I knew there weren't a whole lot of options available to me, so I did what any good college student does: got researching. I found Hair We Share, and was quite impressed with how up front they are about their process, as well as where donations go.
While I would love to sponsor a couple of wigs, my finances just don't allow for it. That's why I'm doing this fundraiser. Each wig costs $125 to make, so I set my goal at $250. If you can spare anything, I'd be grateful, as will whoever gets a chance to feel more like themselves as they fight their medical battles.
I have a birthday coming up at the end of the month. Instead of a present, feel free to donate instead! We're all in this together.
